FOUNDATION 101.... part ONE (:

FOUNDATION 1O1

This is one of my most requested blog posts!! You asked for it so here it is!! Keep ideas and questions coming!! Don't be shy!!

H0PE Y0U ENJ0Y!!

I am the kind of girl who will spend the extra money to get a good foundation because the skin is what makes a person look put together to me. If your eye makeup is exquisite but your skin is red, uneven, splotchy, or even flaking off. Even thinking about it makes me sick.

Finding your "holy grail" foundation, I'm not going to lie, is very difficult. To find a foundation that't not too yellow or too pink, too dry or too greasy, doesn't cover enough or makes you look like a cake face is a very time consuming process!! When shopping for a foundation, there are several factors you should take into play. You really need to know your own skin first!!!

what is your skin type?

Dry Skin: Lacks moisture! The face feels tights all the time like it can't breathe. Foundation usually finds it way to peel of of the face over a period of time. The face looks ashy when foundation is applied. Makeup tends to settle into fine lines throughout the face. Foundation gets bunched up in certain areas which accentuates dry patches. Dry skin is also usually red because people with dry skin tend to have very sensitive skin!
This is Over Exaggerated Dry Skin!

Normal Skin: Rarely anyone has normal skin. When someone has normal skin, this means that the skin is one even color. There is no red areas, dry patches, oily t-zone, NOTHING!! I wish I was fortunate enough to have "normal" skin, but come on really, who wants to be "normal" haha KIDDING!!! It is ever girls dream to have normal skin!!
This is SOOOOO Photoshopped!!!

Combination Skin: Combo skin is both dry and oily at the same time. USUALLY, the T-Zone(picture below) of the face is where the oiliest parts are(the forehead, down the nose and on the inner cheeks) and the surrounding areas are dry. This is not that same case for everyone though.
The T-Zone of the Face

Oily Skin: Even though oily skin is such a pain, it has been proven that people with oily skin are less likely to get wrinkles. Oily skin can usually been spotted when someone has breakouts frequently. Oily skin is actually really easy to spot because the skin is shiny! Makeup doesn't stay on the face because it slides right off. **IMPORTANT: EVEN IF YOU HAVE OILY SKIN, THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU DO NOT NEED TO MOISTURIZE!!! IF YOU DON'T MOISTURIZE, YOUR SEBACEOUS GLANS(SWEAT GLANDS) WILL FEEL THE NEED TO PRODUCE MORE OIL!!**

the different levels of coverage:

Sheer/Light Coverage: This is the minimum amount of coverage a foundation will give. A sheer foundation will pretty much even out your skin tone, but still allow your skin to show through. It is very natural and barely noticeable. Perfect for school or young teenagers just starting to wear makeup.

Medium Coverage: Medium coverage foundations are very easy to find because most foundations are Medium coverage. This means that the foundation when used very sparingly, it would give you light coverage but can be easily built up to a more noticeable coverage.

Medium-to-Full Coverage:  A Medium-to-Full coverage foundation is quite similar to the medium coverage foundation except the coverage starts off good and can be built up to have even better coverage.

Full Coverage: A Full Coverage foundation will cover almost any imperfections very easily, but the texture is usually a thicker consistency which is uncomfortable to some people. MAKE SURE THE FOUNDATION IS A PERFECT MATCH IF YOU DECIDE TO GO DOWN THIS ROUTE, OR YOU COULD END UP LOOKING LIKE YOU HAVE A MASK ON!!

the difference in the finishes:

Dewy: If a foundation claims to give a dewy/luminous finish, this means that after the foundation sets, the skin still appears to glow. I only recommend a dewy foundation to someone with dry or normal skin, MAYBE combo skin if it is set with a good powder. Oily skinned people want to stay as far away from a dewy foundation possible. Not only will this foundation slip RIGHT off your face, it will also make you more oily than you already are!! A foundation with a dewy finish makes the skin look fresh and youthful. These foundations also normally come in a light-medium coverage.

Satin: This is a sheen finish. This means that even though it doesn't shine, it shimmers when light hits it. This may not be exactly a natural finish, but it gives a very healthy glow to the skin without being sticky and wet. A satin finish will look good on pretty much anyone. It causes the skin to look radiant.

Natural: A natural finish is the most popular finish in foundations. This finish is best described as looking exactly like your skin natural state. That is pretty much all I can say about this finish. It is simply beautiful.

Matte: A matte finish has no shine and is very great for those with oily skin. A matte finish has a powder like porcelain feel the the skin. This finish will prevent your makeup from moving because it is 100% set. I would not recommend this for people with dry skin, because it can and will make your face flake and you will look like a cake face. Matte finishes are for people who need help controlling the oil on their face. Matte foundations tend to dry quite fast so i recommend working quickly when blending. If you take too long and the foundation begins to set before you are finished blending, your skin will look splotchy and dirty! NOT FLATTERING!!

different kinds of foundations:

Tinted Moisturizer:  This is for those get up and go kind of days. With barely any coverage, this will even out the skin tone, but also hydrate the skin throughout the day. A tinted moisturizer

Liquid: The most common of foundations because it comes in so many different finishes and coverage will vary. A liquid foundation is the easiest to blend which once you buff it into the skin, you will have a flawless almost airbrushed finish. With a liquid foundation, you can use a foundation brush, buffing brush, fingers, or even a sponge to apply. You really can't go wrong with a liquid foundation.

Cream: Cream foundations are normally way thicker than most foundations and will provide a lot of coverage for the tough to cover imperfections like hyper pigmentation, rosacea, acne scars, etc. Most cream foundations provide a beautiful flawless finish. Cream foundations are usually worn by those with normal-combo-dry skin types.

Powder: Powder foundations usually are semi-matte or a matte finish. Powder foundation usually start off at a medium coverage and up from there. Powder foundations should be applied with a kabuki brush and should be buffed into the skin.

different undertones in foundations:

Warm: Warm skin tones are skin tones with a natural yellow undertone. If you take your arm and put it out and flip it to where your palm is facing the ceiling, look at the veins. If the veins are green, you have a yellow undertone.

Cool: Cool skin tones are skin tones with a natural pink undertone. If you do the arm thing i said about, and your veins look blue, this means that you are a cool undertone.

Neutral: Neutral undertones have both pink and yellow undertones to the skin. The veins will look like a blueish green. I say it like that like duh, but I mean it's so blueish green that you won't be able to decide if you see blue or green.

Thanks so much for reading!! I hope this helped you out!! Part TWO will not be much longer. I am going to talk about what to search for when purchasing a foundation and who should wear what foundation. I will also talk about what different foundations you should wear during different seasons.

as always,
XOXO jadehartweck

BEAUTY ON A BUDGET.. $20 FACE

Since I have been dealing with makeup for quite a few years now, I seem to forget that there are a lot of people who aren't really aware or makeup and what different products do! So instead of recommending all these high-end products that I have fallen in love with, it's time to take a step back to the basics where I started. Believe me, when I first started out, we didn't even have a Sephora or an Ulta. It was just me making my mom take me to Walmart, Walgreens, CVS and Kmart for makeup.

The worst part about drugstore makeup is that you can't try it on before you buy it!! SUCKS!!

This blog post is going to be a full face makeup list of products that are around $20 for an everyday makeup look.

I know some people prefer powder foundations and some prefer liquid, so i will put both.

In my opinion, without a doubt, you should invest in a good foundation because without pretty skin, your entire look can change.

**HELPFUL HINT**
ALWAYS APPLY ALL LIQUID PRODUCTS (FOUNDATION, CONCEALER, CREAM BLUSH/BRONZER/HIGHLIGHTER, ETC BEFORE APPLY ANY KIND OF POWDERS. THIS WILL PREVENT A "CAKE FACE"

foundation:
maybelline dream liquid mouse (liquid)
found at all drugstores and online
$6.94
This is the exact foundation that I used to use as a teenager. I love it!! Moderate coverage, perfect for an everyday school look. I dries to a natural finish so a setting powder isn't even needed.

milani even-touch powder foundation (powder)
found at walgreens,kmart,target and online
$6.79
This is a great powder, cheap or not. I used it on clients all the time because it has a great amount of coverage and it doesn't leave the skin looking powdery or cakey!! It has a very smooth finish that can be reached when is buffed or pressed into the skin.

concealer:
maybelline fit me concealer
found at all drugstores and online
$5.49
This is another simply fantastic product. This concealer is great for spot concealing and undereye concealing. Very light weight and still has a decent amount of coverage. ALWAYS REMEMBER TO SET YOUR CONCEALER WITH A POWDER!!!!

eyeshadow:
wet & wild eye shadow palette-walking on eggshells
found at most drugstores and online
$1.99
The consistancy and color pay off from these wet&wild eyeshadow are head turning!! They are so pigmented you will be shocked!! I 100% recommend these eyeshadow trios!! There are so many to choose from, I just think this one in 'walking on eggshells' is the most universal everyday shade trio!!! GREAT BUY DON'T PASS THIS UP!!!

blush & bronzer:
elf blush-bronzer duo
found at kmart, target and online
$3
This is another staple product in my kit. This is an almost exact dupe of the ever so popular NARS Laguna/Orgasm blush/bronzer duo that can be found at Sephore for 40+ dollars!! The blush shade in here is SOOO pretty and will look fabulous on every skin tone. The bronzer in the duo is fantastic for both warming up the face and contouring!! You will be sorry if you don't pick this up to try out!!
lips:
elf essential hypershine gloss
found at target, kmart and online
$1
These are so simular to the Stila lipglosses found at sephora it is scary!! I am inlove with these lipglosses, and for just $1 there's no way you can go wrong!! They have a variety of different shades, but again, I think this is the most everyday shade for school/work. They actually smell pretty decent too. fruity!!

mascara:
jordana best last extreme mascara
found at walgreens and online
$2.99
This mascara is so volumizing you will be shocked. The entire jordana collection is great actually. I love this mascara and so does almost the entire youtube community. It was an unexpected gem found at the drugstore!! Well worth the $2.99
total prices:
liquid: $21.41            powder: $21.26

thanks so much for reading. hope this helped you out!! let me know what you think and what you want to see next!!!

MY SKIN CARE ROUTINE

I am pretty consistent when it comes to my skin care routine because recently I have been have acne that I am having the hardest time to get rid of! I NEVER had acne when I was a teenager; I MEAN NEVER!!! I would go to sleep with my makeup on all the time and nothing, not even a dry patch, but ever since I started college and became an "adult" I just can't seem to get rid of it. I also am terrified of getting old and wrinkly (a bit vain of me, yes, I know!!)

I am aware that people have acne a lot worse than I do, but for never having acne, this is a lot for me.

I go to school and work 6 days a week so it is hard for me to just let my skin breathe for a chance. Whenever I do get a chance (days off) I take advantage of it though. I DO NOT WEAR AN OUNCE OF MAKEUP ON THESE DAYS.

My makeup is usually on from 8 in the morning and comes off around 9 that night.

I religiously wash my face every morning and night. Even if I end up sleeping at a friends house, I will at least take a makeup wipe to this face!!!

The products listed below are what I enjoy using. I have dry/normal skin. I do not use all the products everyday, but I will explain when and how i use each product.

And just an FYI, I am currently on the hunt for a great eye cream. I am still trying some out, some I don't want to recommend something that I don't know if it works yet. I will keep y'all updated though!!

That being said, all of the products listed below are my recommendations for anyone with dry/normal skin!!  (:

enjoy!!!

makeup remover wipes
Yes To Cucumbers Soothing Makeup Remover Wipes $9
My hunt for my favorite makeup remover wipes has finally come to an end because these have taken the prize for the best in my opinion!! I actually got these randomly because I was at a friends and didn't have any so I purchased the travel size and ulta.... went by the big pack and walgreens that night by the way lol. They are so gentle but really remove almost all of my face makeup!! They smell just like cucumber so the scent is very refreshing. They aren't too dry and they aren't too wet! They are PERFECT!! One sheet  takes off all of my face makeup.

waterproof eye makeup remover
Maybelline Clean Express Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover $5
I am a faithful waterproof mascara user because of my terrible incredibly short, straight eyelashes! I picked this up and it works fine. The only thing that I stress is that you must shake this product because you use it. As you should know, oil sits ontop of water, and this product has oil. So, first, shake and then put on a cotton ball and then take off your makeup. If you do not shake first, it will now work. To be honest, this product works, but its nothing special. If you are already using something and you like it, there is no need to run out and get this, lol. It gets the job done, but its nothing spectacular! Good product though!

face wash
clean & clear continuous control $5
I wash my face with this face wash every morning and every night! I absolutely love this face wash!! When I leave the bathroom after washing my face, I can instantly feel a cooling sensation that makes me feel like my skin is finally breathing!!! BEST FEELING EVER (my girls who wear makeup know what I'm talking about!!) I have been using this for MONTHS now; already on my 3 bottle. I even tried to try another face wash and just couldn't do it. I went repurchase this one!! All Around great face wash.

exfoliator

st. ives apricot scrub $4
I normally exfolaite every other night. It is very good to exfoliate because it takes away all of the dry skin and built up dirt and oil that is clogging your pores. But, if you over exfoliate, this could possibly dry out your skin. I used to use the Loreal Deep Clean Exfoliating Scrub until I went out on a limb and tried this. SO MUCH BETTER!! and I really used to love the Loreal one. After I exfoliate, my skin really feels like a baby's butt!!! It is a very basic exfoliant, but I personally love it!!

moisturizer (night time)
Swanson 95% Natural Argan Oil Night Cream $10
One of my co-workers just recently got this for me because I always used to Josie Maran Argan Oil at night. She found this on the internet and said that she wanted to dry it and I was all about it!! Turns out it is amazing!!! A little goes a long way!! It is a very thick cream, but it really doesn't take that long to soak into the skin! I put this on every night right after I apply my serum (listed below) This is for all skin types because argan oil is actually really good for the skin (not just the face)

moisturizer (day time)
Pond's Dry Skin Cream $9
This is another product that I have been using for a while. I have also tried other day time moisturizers but still seem to go back to this! It definately moisturizes my skin. I would not recommend this if you have oily skin because it is pretty heavy duty!! I will continue to repurchase this though!!

anti aging skin serum
Avon Mark. Youth Movement Skin Perfecting Serum $20
I LIVE BY THIS SKIN SERUM. When I read all about this, it claimed to fade acne scars, prevent fine lines under the eyes, and brighten the skin. SUPRISINGLY, it does just that!! I have been doing an experiment with this (blog post soon to come) showing the difference in my acne scars. DRAMATIC difference!!! I am not even finished a bottle and have already purchased me a backup. This has now become a staple in my skin care regimen. It feels really lightweight and soaks into the skin SUPER FAST!!! I cannot say enough good things about this product!!! If you are interested in this product, let me know and I have an AVON representative for you!!

face mask
Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque $4
This is the best face mask at the drugstore. EVERYONE knows about this mask because it is simply that awesome. I usually do this face mask like once a week if not once every two weeks. It is really just a deep pore mask. It sucks out all the trapped dirt and oil in the pores. You can really feel your pores shrinking as the mask dries. Very basic, very awesome! You can't go wrong with this mask!

spot treatment
Orgins Super Spot Remover $14.50
For spot treatments, this is the way to go!! I have been using this product for YEARS and will continue to repurchase. IN LOVE!!!!! All you do is dab a little bit on acne and go to sleep and overnight, you will see a dramatic difference!! It is 1.5% salacytic acid i believe (this is the chemical that treats acne) This tiny bottle literally lasts forever!!! I like a spot remover that I "can feel the burn" if you know what I mean, lol. Whenever you put this on a blemish, you have a second of a little burning, but its like that good burning feeling haha. Like that "oh yeah, its working" feeling.

cleansing brush system
Olay Pro FX Brush System $30
I use this facial brush to clean my face every morning and every night. I do not use the face wash that comes with the kit though. I got mine at walgreen, but it is so much more expensive there. I recommend getting it from walmart. I always wanted the clarisonic, but there is no way I could allow myself to spend $150 on it! I find this works great. You can really tell when your finished washing your face that there is a difference from when you use just your hands, I can take off all of my makeup and then wash my face using this, and there will makeup residue on the brush!! It is amazing!! I totally recommend this, because I don't know what I would do without it now! It has two speeds (high and low) I use the high speed and it takes AA batteries.

toner
Mario Badescu Rose Water Facial Spray $7
Since I have dry skin, I dont tone my face with a real toner, because toners really dry out my face. I spritz this on my face because I apply my serum and moisturizer every night. It is very soothing on the face!! I impulsively got this on a shopping trip with one of my friends at ulta. It smells divine!! I also spritz this on my face when my skin is looking rather dry. It instantly adds moisture to the face! Very hydrating. I really would only recommend this to people with dry skin because there really is no purpose to own this if you have oily skin. This stays in my purse because I use it all the time!!

Thanks so much for reading!! Leave me feedback and recommendations on what you would like to see next!!! love y'all!!

MY FAVORITE MAC LIPSTICKS

*My Favorite M A C Lipsticks*

IF YOU HAVE NEVER OWNED A MAC LIPSTICK, I AM SO SERIOUS WHEN I SAY YOU ARE TOTALLY MISSING OUT!! EVEN IF THEY WEREN'T SO AMAZING, (WHICH THEY ARE) I WOULD BUY THEM JUST BECAUSE THEY SMELL LIKE HEAVENNNNN!!!! THEY SMELL LIKE A VANILLA MILKSHAKE AND I AM OBSESSED WITH ANYTHING VANILLA!!! IT IS JUST SUCH A LUXURIOUS SMELL AND FEELING ON THE LIPS!!

LIP PRODUCTS ARE BY FAR MY FAVORITE!! I JUST LOVE HOW THE COLORS ARE ENDLESS AND YOU CAN REALLY SHOW OFF YOUR PERSONALITY WITH A SIMPLE CHANGE IN LIP COLOR.

THE COLORS I HAVE VARY FROM AN EVERYDAY LOOK TO AN EXCITING NIGHT OUT!!!

TO ME, A BOLD LIP IS SO FUN AND IT IS DEFINATELY A HEAD TURNER!!

I RECOMMEND EVERY SINGLE LIPSTICK THAT WILL BE BELOW AND I PROMISE YOU IT WILL BE MONEY WELL SPENT!! MAC LIPSTICKS ARE $15

#1 - CREME IN YOUR COFFEE
(cremesheen)
My all time favorite color would have to be creme in your coffee!

Creme in your coffee is also in my favorite formula by MAC, cremesheen!! It is so silky on the lips and rather opaque. It is just an all around beautiful color!! It is a sort of deep dusty rose with a tiny hint of beige. I naturally have rather dark lips so this color is pretty much an everyday your lips but better color. I usually pair this with sephora lip liner in "radiant rose" and then top it off with  MAC lipglass in "Lovechild!" Since creme in your coffee is pretty deep (nothing dramatic or anything) it actually semi-stains your lips which causes the lipstick to last a lot longer than a pale color. I just cannot say enough great things about this color!

#2 - ANGEL
(frost)
The next MAC lipstick that I am so obsessed with that I am about to have to pick me up another one is "Angel!!!" Kim Kardashian has already made this lip color famous, and it certainly deserves the credit!! "Angel" is a B E A U T I F U L everyday pale pink color that will look amazing on just about any skin tone!! It is a frost lipstick which means it is supposed to have a frosted shimmer and  shine to it but I find it is so opaque, you can barley see any shimmer. If I were to recommend one MAC lipstick if you don't own any, this would be the one.. The color is so versatile!! Kim K. usually tops Angel off with B but I tend to normally reach for my NYX butter gloss in "Tiramisu!" I usually line my lips with SEPHORA'S lipliner

#3 - CREMECUP
(cremesheen)
Cremecup is actually one of MAC's top sellers. It is a very basic light cool-toned pink. It has pretty good pigmentation for being such a light pink. Since my lips are so pigmented naturally, I usually line my lips with SEPHORA'S lipliner in "Royal Rose" because the lipliner is much deeper, it darkens the lipstick just a tad! It truly is a beautiful color though! This is another color that looks great on pretty much every skin tone! I have actually been grabbing for Cremecup more than Creme in your coffee because if just screams summer. It is such a girly pink lip color!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COLOR FOR TEENS AND THOSE WHO ARE UNSURE ABOUT WEARING LIPSTICK.

#4 - RUBY WOO
(retro matte)
Ruby woo has to be the most gorgeous true cool toned red my eyes have ever seen!! There is just something so pin up style about it. The only downfall to Ruby Woo is that since it is a retro matte, it is pretty drying. Before you apply your lipstick and lipliner, I cannot stress enough to exfolliate your lips and apply a lip balm. Ruby woo is hands down my favorite red lipstick on the market (and yes I own a lot of red lipsticks both high end and drugstore) To me, the two best lipliners to pair with Ruby Woo would be MAC "cherry" lipliner  or Revlon lipliner in "red." Both of these lipliners are cool-toned reds as well.  When I say cool-toned, I mean that they are blue based rather than orange based. A blue based lip color will cause your teeth to look extra white while a orange based lip color will assentuate any yellow pigment to the teeth. I know a lot of people think lipliner is for "older people," but I really do suggest wearing a lipliner with a red lip. This will prevent the lipstick from bleeding onto the skin around the mouth and it will also help the lipstick stay on longer. It also defines the lips and makes them look extra elegant and classy!! Ruby Woo is such a pigmented color that it will show up on ANY skin tone, pale or dark. It is such a flattering color.

#5 - MORANGE
(amplified creme)
I don't know about you, but I have been on this orange kick and I don't know how to stop. I am so in love with this color, words cannot even begin to describe!! OH! And the formula is so hydrating, it feels like silk on your lips!! The amplified formula is extra creamy and extra pigmented!! This color is also awesome beause you can wear it hot and bold, or you can lightly tap in on the lips and smear it in with your fingers for a light wash! I understand this color can look scary, but sometimes you just have to have fun with your makeup and make a statement!! I guarentee you that if you get this lipstick you will get TONS of compliments because suprisingly, it is a very flattering lipstick! I looked high and low for a lipliner to wear with this lipstick but nothing satisfied mean, but honestly, you do not even need a lipliner. That's how pigmented this lipstick it!! IT IS SUCH A GREAT TIME!!! I do normally only wear this lipstick when I am wearing strickly black, white and grey though! No matter if you like it or not, ORANGE IS THE COLOR OF THE SEASON!! EMBRASE IT!!!!!

...and last but deff not least...

#6 - CANDY YUM YUM
(matte)
This is by far the funnest lipstick that I own!! It is a **G O R G E O U S** NEON HOT PINK and yes, when I say NEON, I MEAN NEON!!!! I woulnt be suprised if this was glow in the dark under a black like lol. The blue undertones in this lipstick are so exquisit I just can't even deal!! Eventhough Candy Yum Yum is a matte, it is NO WHERE near as drying as Ruby Woo. This might sound crazy, but it is almost hydrating. It feels like velvet on your lips. This lipstick is so highly pigmented, you have to be very careful when applying so that you don't go outside the lines and cause a hot mess!!! This is deffffff a show stopping shade!!! You will have people asking what you're wearing, lol!! This lipstick also semi-stains your lips causing longer wear time and fewer touch-ups!! It is just so vibrant and possibly the best girls night out lipstick every created. Be daring! Be bold! Try it out!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post!! I really appreciate it and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed writing it!! Leave me comments below saying what you want to see next!! I want nothing more than to give you what you want to see!!
